XL Fit Guide: How to Fit Your Mimi XL Cloth Nappy

XL Fit Guide: How to Fit Your Mimi XL Cloth Nappy - Mimi & Co

Your little one has outgrown their 2.0 (or they're getting close), and you're wondering if XL is the next step. Good news: if you can fit a 2.0, you can fit an XL. Same Mimi design, same snaps, just more room for bigger kids.

How do you know you've got it right? Basically:

1. You're not getting leaks
2. Your little one isn't getting red marks

Is it time for XL?

The Mimi XL fits from 20kg to 35kg. It picks up where the Mimi® 2.0 (2.5kg to 20kg) leaves off. It's time to size up when:

  • Your 2.0 is on its last rise setting
  • Your little one is getting close to 20kg
  • You need more room for long legs, chunky thighs or nights
  • You have a bigger kid who still needs nappies, for whatever reason

Stuck between sizes? Reply to any of our emails or contact us with your little one's weight and we'll tell you which size to grab.

1. Picking your absorbency

Will my 2.0 inserts fit the XL? Of course! But we have specifically designed XL inserts for these nappies to give you the ultimate XL absorbency and coverage you need with a bigger nappy.

Everyday wear

Setup: XL Bamboo Cotton Snake
Benefit: Position the snake exactly where it's needed most, and fold it in the front for boys.

Heavy wetters, long car rides and naps

Setup: Add the XL Bamboo Cotton Booster on top of the snake.
Benefit: Maximum absorbency for long stretches without a change.

Nights

Though not specifically developed for nights, the XL design, increased absorbency and coverage has meant many of our testers have used the XL nappy overnight with amazing success! Start with the maximum setup above and check in the morning.

2. Stay-dry or stay-wet? (WetAware®)

We understand the need for a stay-dry layer for kids who have sensory needs, but also wanted to include a stay-wet option for any kids who will transition out of XL nappies and into undies.

Insert inside the pocket for stay-dry, insert on top of the pocket for WetAware®

3. Adjust the rise snaps first

The rise controls the length of the nappy. If it looks bulky or gapes at the waist, the rise probably needs adjusting.

4. Position the back correctly

The back of the nappy should sit just 1 to 2cm above your little one's bum crack.

5. Master the taco method

Pinch the front panel of the nappy in the crotch (like a taco shell) and pull it up between the legs. This tucks the leg elastics neatly into the underwear line, giving a snug seal against leaks. Bigger kids move more, so this step matters even more in XL.

6. Secure the waist and leg snaps

Snap them up snugly, firm enough to hold but not tight. You should be able to fit two to three fingers comfortably between the waistband and your child's tummy.

7. Check the leg seal

Leg elastics should sit in the groin crease (the underwear line), not on the thigh. You want a secure seal with no gaps, without being tight.

8. Red marks: what's normal?

Light pink marks that fade quickly? Totally normal (like when you take off socks). Dark, deep or long-lasting marks? Loosen the fit a little.
