Disana Lanolin Guide

How to Use Disana Lanolin

The complete guide to replenishing lanolin in your woollen overpants (Wool Covers) and clothing using Disana Lanolin Care Treatment.

Important: For Textiles Only

Disana Lanolin Care Treatment is formulated specifically for wool textiles and should not be used on the body. For nipple care or skincare purposes, please use a pure, food-grade lanolin product instead.

Quick Reference: Dosage Guide

Different wool items require different amounts of Disana Lanolin. Here's a quick comparison:

Woollen Overpants

2 tbsp

per 1 litre water

Woollen Clothing

1 tsp

per 1 litre water

Why the Difference?
Overpants need more lanolin because they're used as a waterproof barrier over nappies. Regular woollen clothing just needs a light treatment to maintain softness and natural water resistance.

What You'll Need

Disana Lanolin

Bowl or Basin

Lukewarm Water

Clean Towel

Disana Wool Shampoo

Spray Bottle (optional)

Lanolising Woollen Overpants

For use over cloth nappies as a waterproof cover

Got New Overpants?

No need to lanolise new woollen overpants! They have enough natural wax on the fibre. Simply wash them with Disana Wool Shampoo before first use without replenishing the lanolin afterwards.

2 tbsp
Disana Lanolin
+
1 litre
Lukewarm Water

Before lanolising, wash your woollen overpants with Disana Wool Shampoo to remove any dirt or residue. This ensures the lanolin can properly penetrate the wool fibres.

Pro Tip
Use lukewarm water for washing wool. Hot water can cause shrinkage and felting!
  • Fill a bowl or basin with 1 litre of lukewarm water
  • Add 2 tablespoons of Disana Lanolin Care Treatment
  • Stir or swirl until fully dissolved
Temperature Matters
Use lukewarm water only. Water that's too hot can damage the wool fibres.
  • Turn the woollen overpants inside out
  • Place them in the lanolin solution
  • Squeeze gently to ensure the solution penetrates
Brief Soak Only!
Unlike other lanolising methods, Disana Lanolin requires only a brief soak. Don't leave them soaking for hours. Submerge, squeeze gently, and remove.
  • Remove the overpants from the lanolin solution
  • Gently squeeze out excess lanolin solution
Be Gentle!
Don't wring or twist the wool. Gently squeeze to remove excess water without damaging the fibres.
  • Lay a clean towel flat
  • Place the overpants on the towel
  • Roll up and press gently to absorb moisture
  • Lay flat or hang to dry in a shady, well-ventilated area
  • Once completely dry, your overpants are ready to use!
Avoid Heat!
Do NOT place in direct sunlight or on a heater. Heat can damage wool and cause shrinkage. Always air dry in a shaded spot.

Lanolising Woollen Clothing

For jumpers, cardigans, blankets and other wool items

1 tsp
Disana Lanolin
+
1 litre
Lukewarm Water
  • Fill a bowl or basin with 1 litre of lukewarm water
  • Add 1 teaspoon of Disana Lanolin Conditioner
  • Stir until fully dissolved
Less is More
Clothing only needs 1 teaspoon per litre (half what overpants need) since it doesn't need to be as water-resistant.
  • Turn the woollen clothing inside out
  • Place in the lanolin solution and squeeze gently
  • Leave only briefly before removing
  • Gently squeeze out excess lanolin solution
  • Roll in a towel and press to remove moisture
  • Dry flat in a shady spot (no sun or heaters)
Done!
Your woollen clothing is now conditioned and ready to wear. It will be softer and have improved natural water resistance.

Alternative: Spray Method

For a quick refresh, you can also spray the lanolin solution directly onto your woollen clothing instead of soaking. Simply mix the solution as above, pour into a spray bottle, and mist evenly over the garment. Allow to dry in a shaded area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Disana Lanolin Care Treatment is formulated specifically for textile care and may contain additives that aren't suitable for skin application. For nipple care or skincare, use a pure, food-grade lanolin product instead.
Disana Lanolin is designed to work quickly and efficiently. A brief soak with gentle squeezing is all that's needed for the lanolin to penetrate the wool fibres. Prolonged soaking isn't necessary and could potentially affect the wool.
Heat can damage wool fibres and cause shrinkage or felting. Direct sunlight can also fade colours. Always dry wool in a shaded, well-ventilated area at room temperature.
For overpants used over cloth nappies, lanolise after every few washes or when you notice reduced water resistance. For regular woollen clothing, lanolising once a season or after washing is usually sufficient.
