Congratulations on your new Mimi & Co modern cloth nappies! You’re about to start a journey of comfort, sustainability, and style for your little one. But before you jump in, there’s a quick prepping process to get your nappies ready for their debut.
There’s a lot of advice out there—some of it, let’s be honest, a bit over the top. For instance, soaking your inserts for 24 hours is often suggested to improve absorbency. Having tested this method myself, I can confidently say that it’s no more effective than a single wash. So, let’s keep it simple!
Steps to Prep Your Cloth Nappies
Remove All Tags
- Before anything else, take off all the tags from your nappies and inserts.
Disassemble Your Nappies
- Pull out all the inserts and take everything apart. This ensures a thorough wash for every component.
Load Them Up
- Toss your nappies and inserts into the washing machine. There’s no need for separate loads—you can wash them with your regular laundry. TPU is colourfast, and your inserts won’t bleed dye, so mixing them with clothes is perfectly safe.
Set the Wash Cycle
- Use a cotton cycle at 40-60°C with a good mainstream detergent.
If you’re unsure which detergent to use, here are some recommendations from Mimi & Co:
- OMO Active Powder
- Lucent Glove Unscented
- Biozet
- Almat (Aldi) Powder
All of these options work wonderfully with cloth nappies. Alternatively, feel free to use a detergent you’re already comfortable with that suits your family’s needs.
Dry Your Nappies
- Once the wash is complete, dry your nappies. You have two options:
- Use a low-heat setting in your dryer.
- Line-dry them (avoiding direct sunlight to protect the TPU).
Ready to Use
That’s it! Your nappies are ready to go. While the absorbency of your inserts will continue to increase over the first 8-10 washes, there’s no need to wait. Once they’ve been washed and dried, they’re good to use immediately on your baby.
With these simple steps, you’re set to enjoy the convenience and eco-friendliness of your Mimi & Co cloth nappies from day one! 🌿
